Love Carries on

A song dedicated to those who've gone before us... and as a celebration of the generations!

It was written as a particular tribute to my Mum n Dad (Shirley and Peter Newell.) But also for Neil Thorogood, as he became URC General Assembly Moderator (2026) His Mum and Dad would have been rightly very proud! (Jeanette and Bernard Thorogood.)
It became a song celebrating the faithfulness of those who've gone before us and realising God is not finished with us yet!

I worry some may see stereotyped images, in truth both 'Dads' were ministers...but the leadership, dignity and courage of our Mum's and so many others is simply remarkable.  As Evelyn Underhill  says, our spiritual work is to discover the part that God has for us to play: no stereotypes only unique and wonderful calling from an uncontainable mysterious wonderful God... whose love for each of us will always 'Carry on!'

Love Carries on Lyrics

Our Fathers before us they carried a flame, Of love and compassion a life without gain. Their life brought to others the love of a king Whose love knows no borders so all may join in. Our mother's they toiled to help us grow strong. They gave their best years so we'd find our song. Their lives lived for others has helped us to see, That serving and giving is the path to be free. Our mother's they toiled to help us grow strong They gave their best years so we'd find our song. Their lives lived for others has helped us to see, That serving and giving is the path…. to be free. Chorus And now we are passing along Our children came and found their own song. But the love that's been planted still stays strong. For love that moves mountains carries on, carries on. This love that they planted is gift not a right we cannot deserve it or earn it by might It's love from a Father who sent us his son and wept with his Mother when hope all seemed gone. Chorus
